Dallas police pension must not open the door for another run on the bank — not now
MARCH 9, 2017
It’s the next moment of truth for the troubled Dallas Police and Fire Pension System. On Thursday, the pension board will consider whether to allow large lump-sum withdrawals that could total hundreds of millions of dollars.
We urge the board to reject the idea, both to keep the fund financially stable and give negotiators more time to hammer out a more lasting fix. If the board goes the other way, some trustees are ready to file an immediate legal challenge, which would further distract from the important work ahead.
