Editorial: 3 big problems that still need solving in plan to save the Dallas police pension

We wish we could say that Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings returned from Austin this week with a fix for the embattled Dallas Police and Fire Pension System. Unfortunately, we can’t.
While a rescue plan crafted by state Rep. Dan Flynn, R-Van, moves both sides closer together, it still contains some potentially fatal flaws that need to be fixed now. Key provisions in HB 3158 lay too much risk at the city of Dallas’ feet, while failing to give the city enough governing authority to permanently fix the pension shortfall.
